Producers: Château Pichon Comtesse de Lalande
Bordeaux, Pauillac 2. Cru Classé For more than 250 years, the estate belonged to the Pichon Longueville family. Its first big climb is thanks to the dedicated Virginie Comtesse de Lalande, who built the castle in 1840. Under her direction, the Château 1855 classification 2nd Cru Classé was awarded. Unfortunately, in the turmoil of the First World War, many vineyards were auctioned at Médoc and fortunately Edouard and Louis Miailhe succeeded in acquiring the estate in 1925, descendants of an old family of Bordeaux winemakers and traders. The daughter of Edouard, May Eliane de Lencquesaing inherited the winery and led it in the style of Comtesse de Lalande on to international success. For thirty years she has led the fortunes of the family winery with great passion for the wine. In 2007, she sold the Château and the vineyard to the Rouzard family, owners of the Louis Roederer champagne house.
