Our producer: Sven Fröhlich
Sven Fröhlich was born in Berlin in 1967 and grew up on the Baltic Sea. His first job was as a telecommunications fitter. In 2004 he moved to Switzerland, in 2007 he went to Thomas Studach in Malans as an intern. Here he discovered his passion for viticulture. He then completed his apprenticeship with the Ueli and Jürg Liesch families at the Treib winery, also in Malans, and in Thayngen, SH. The love for Pinot was born, so to speak.
His first employers Martha and Daniel Gantenbein with their exceptionally high quality awareness and their love of detail influenced him the most. Thus, the high bar was given in terms of consistently accurate work across the board. After five harvests he gained further experience with the Lipp family in Maienfeld (then Kunz-Keller), Christian Hermann, at Salenegg Castle and with Georg Schlegel, all of whom were resident in the "Herrschaft".
The foundation as an independent winemaker was laid in 2015, when the family of his landlord in Jenins offered to rent to him his first small plot of 300 vines. He named it after the first animal that he found in it - it was the bumblebee. Since then, this popular animal has not only accompanied Sven Fröhlich at work, but also adorns his label.
Since the beginning of 2018 he has been the proud leaseholder of a hectare of vineyards in Fläsch. At the same time he got the chance to rent Thomas Studach's former cellar in Malans, in which he presses his own wine. He has now been able to expand his lease to 1.4 hectares.
