Radiant ruby. In the nose of great complexity and density. Aromas of plums, cherry jam, rose water, truffles, cigars and warm spices. On the palate with a lot of substance and at the same time elegance and finesse. The tannins are grainy and present. The finish is aromatically long-lasting and balanced.
According to his daughter Bruna Giacosa, Bruno decided to buy the Falletto estate as soon as he heard that it was for sale. Because he wanted to make wines that are long-lasting and elegant, such vineyards interested him. Because here the natural conditions for fine tannins and thus balanced wines are given: Power and intensity but without the inevitable harshness of other Barolo. Even as a child, Bruno had visited the vineyards of the entire Langhe with his father in search of the best grapes or wines. Legend has it that he was able to determine grape variety and site by the taste of the grapes. The Falletto di Serralunga vineyard was therefore known to him. Even if the sites in Serralunga historically did not have the reputation of some sites in La Morra, Barolo and Monforte, Bruno knew that wines could be made here that corresponded to his ideal of balance and finesse.
Today, history proves him right in two respects: almost all producers who want to change and improve the qualitative potential of their vineyards now acquire or lease vineyards in Serralunga. And Giacosa's first vintage from Falletto, the Barolo Falletto 1982, is far from tired, it is fully in the juice and needs many hours after opening to unfold its full potential, at least that is what I was allowed to experience at a tasting last year. Only three years after acquiring Falletto, Bruno decides to fill a Riserva from this vineyard, several more follow, all of them highly praised by the critics.
