Dark ruby red, aromatic nose with aromas of cassis, cherries, blueberries, blackberries, cedar, lavender and pepper. Juicy on the palate, lots of velvety tannin, fine spicy fruit, multilayered, taut elegance, complex and very long lasting.
Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, then 12 months in used barriques and six months in bottle for refinement.
The current owners are keen to continue the long tradition of winegrowing, as wine has been produced here since the middle of the 15th century. With the acquisition in 1997, extensive renovation work was carried out and the estate was enlarged to 350 hectares, a large part of which is forested. Today, the winery employs local people, produces fruit and vegetables for the surrounding villages, and sells organic honey, olive oil and their premium wines to the European and American markets. The care of the vineyards is in the experienced hands of Daniel O'Donnell. Paolo Caciorgna is responsible for the wines. From the 2020 vintage onwards, the winery can look forward to the support of Riccardo Cotarella, one of Italy's most renowned oenologists and wine consultants. Biodynamic cultivation has been used since 2000.
Nearly ideal geological and climatic conditions allow Tenuta Il Palagio to produce high-quality wines with a unique individual touch. Spoiled by a lot of sun, yet provided with sufficient rain, the Tuscan vines on poor limestone soil produce these popular drops.
