History

Since 1999 Benjamin Leroux runs the Domaine Comte Armand in Pommard and he succeeded in increasing the high quality of the wines of this very renowned domain in the last years. Many critics and connoisseurs of the wine scene therefore appreciate him as one of the most talented winemakers in Burgundy. In addition to the Domaine wines, he has been producing small quantities of white wines for the Comte Armand from purchased grapes, e.g. Auxey-Duresses and Meursault Narvaux. According to his philosophy, he gave the winegrowers the guidelines regarding the cultivation of the vineyard and the pruning of the vines, determined the harvest date himself and carried out the harvest with his own team. The vinification of the wines took place of course with the same care as with the Domaine wines. This négocé activity inspired him very much. Since Domaine Comte Armand is a winery with a very great tradition, he feared that the expansion of the négoce activities would water down its name and cause problems with its classification. For this reason he founded the Maison Benjamin Leroux with an investor in 2007. The former Négoce activities of Comte Armand will be continued and expanded by new cooperations. The aim is always long-term cooperation with the winegrowers, who should implement his guidelines for a near-natural, ideally biodynamic cultivation of the vineyard. The B. Leroux team harvests and vinifies the wines. For him it is important to obtain the best grapes from perfectly cultivated vineyards. He prefers top grapes from a village vineyard to moderate grape qualities from a Grand Cru vineyard. In this way, he produces top-quality red and white wines. In order to be able to process the larger quantities of grapes, the cuverie and cellar of a traditional trading house in Beaune were acquired. Having created ideal working conditions here, B. Leroux is now aiming to acquire his own vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. The first acquisitions are a best-situated parcel of Bâtard-Montrachet and around 2.5 hectares of vineyards in various Meursault parcels. We can look forward to seeing how things will continue.
