Deep dark ruby garnet, opaque core, subtle edge brightening, delicate bouquet of prunes and figs, dark berry fruit in the background, candied orange zest. Juicy, black berry fruit, integrated tannins, sweet plums on the finish, long finish, has much to offer.
After vinification, the wine is aged for 18 months in 40% new French oak barrels, 40% barrels first filling and 20% barrels second filling.
Château de Pez, west of the commune of Saint-Estèphe, rivals Calon Ségur as the most ancient of all the Bordeaux vineyards. Its 39 adjoining hectares enjoy ideal exposures on the hilltops around the Château itself.
Thanks to continuous investment, Château de Pez has been carefully renovated since it was acquired by the House of Louis Roederer in 1995. Today this great Cru Bourgeois is restored to its former glory and retakes its rightful place in the limelight as one of the shining stars of Saint-Estèphe.
The soil is composed of one metre of Günzian gravel (deposited during the first period of glaciation during the Pleistocene epoch) overlying the calcareo- argillaceous bedrock of Saint-Estèphe.
