In the nose rich aromas. Fruity and spicy, with notes of sour cherries, raspberries, mon chéri, herbs, black bread, toast and some vanilla. Flattering and complex. On the palate a pithy start, the acidity is present, lively and perfectly integrated. The tannins are of good quality and ripe, the aromas of the nose repeat themselves. A strong body with a full texture. Long and persistent finish.
After strictly selective manual harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in French barriques, 30% of which are new. After the first eight months of ageing in barrels, the batches are assembled and then aged in barrels for a further four months. After bottling, the finished wine is stored in the winery for an additional six months before being sold.
The Tenuta Guado al Tasso winery is located in the small and prestigious DOC Bolgheri, near the coast to the Thyrrenian Mediterranean Sea, in the Maremma, just a hundred kilometres from Florence west of Florence. In former times there were 7 castles in this area, 4 of which are still preserved today, and 86 towers for protection from the Saracens, which could have landed about 1000 years ago from the African coast. The history of the Bolgheri DOC is relatively recent, it was only established in 1995, but its international reputation makes it an important point of reference in the world of viticulture. Tenuta Guado al Tasso lies in a plain at about 50 m.a.s.l. and extends over 1000 hectares, 320 hectares of which are vineyards, the rest is covered with cereals, sunflowers, olive groves, embedded in the so-called Anfiteatro Bolgherese, which creates ideal climatic conditions. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and the white grape variety Vermentino are cultivated here. The proximity to the sea influences the climate, constant light winds soothe the heat of the summer months and soften the cold of the winter, keep the sky free of clouds and favour sunlight. The soils are mainly alluvial, sandy and loamy with the typical Bolgheri soil structure, which highlights the character and varietal characteristics of the grape varieties.
