Producers: Tenuta San Guido
The Tenuta San Guido is named after the Sactuary of San Guido della Gherardesca, who lived in the 11th century. The winery was located on the Tyrrhenian coast, between Livorno and Grosseto. This area was made famous by the poet Giosuè Carducci. The winery, founded by the visionary Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, is now continued by his descendants, the Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta family, consistently following the philosophy of its predecessors. The vineyards of Tenuta San Guido are located not only in the top location Castiglioncello, but also expand over the slopes of the vineyards Quercione and Aia Nuova. The most famous wine of the house thrives in its own subzone called Bolgheri Sassicaia. For a long time, the plant was only classified as Vino da Tavola, because French grape varieties in DOC wines reserved cultivation zones were initially not allowed to be used. In 1994 this wine after the Bordeaux model was finally approved in Bolgheri DOC. Later, this wine was even granted within Bolgheris own Sassicaia DOC. Among the highly regarded creations of the exceptional winery include, in addition to the showpiece, also the two IGT wines Guidalberto and Le Difese.
