Intense and elegant wine with great structure and complexity, beautiful balance between acidity, fruit and tannins. A great wine.
The vinification takes place in cement vats. For the malolactic fermentation, the wine goes into oak barrels. The aging takes place in French barriques, 1/3 new and for 18 months. The wine goes through the bâtonage in the first 6 months.
This part of Chianti, which is mostly covered in forests, has always been cultivated with vineyards and olive groves. An area with a long history and an old vocation in the production of great wines. A trace of it we find 1716, as Cosimo III. De Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, stated with an edict in which areas were the most valuable productions of good wine and quality olive oil. This edict has 4 areas, the Chianti center (between Panzano and Greve), Carmignano (west of Florence), Pomino (east of Florence) and the Arno di Sopra (the western and eastern hills along the Arno between Florence and Arezzo), where the winery Petrolo is located. This vocation was confirmed, a century later, in 1834 by the agronomist Giorgio Perrin, the owner of Petrolo and member of the Accademia dei Gergofili of Florence. He celebrated Sangiovese and the landscape, especially the place Campo Asciutto (today Bòggina). He told how it was customary at that time to combine French grapes with Sangiovese. The winery was acquired in the 40's by the Bazzocchi family, who continued the tradition of careful production of high quality wines with great dedication. The peculiarities of this area add to its value; the land of Petrolo, in which vineyards, olive groves and forests live side by side and together with the soil form a rich ecosystem, which helps to bring the different grape varieties perfectly in harmony.
Clayey, medium structured soil with Galestro, Alberese and sandstone. Altitude 300 m above sea level. Southeast exposure.
