Lodovico Antinori discovered the estate, which became Tenuta di Biserno in 1995, and explored the land intended for the expansion of Ornellaia. What he saw fascinated him, but he recognized that geology and geography are distinctly different from those of Ornellaia, much hillier and stonier. This would have to be a separate project. In this case, freed from Ornellaia and with a historical change in their relationship, Lodovico entered into a technical relationship with his brother Marchese Piero Antinori and landowner Umberto Mannoni. Together, they decided to give life to the potentially fabulous Biserno estate. Tenuta di Biserno is 49 hectares and is located on the coast of western Tuscany, nestled between the hills of Bibbona. Within the estate there is a very individual plot, which is characterized by special wines that are unique and full of character and that all in the team that should care for, a truly rare blend. Just like Masseto in the past, Vigna Lodovico puts the jewel of Biserno at the center. Lodovico is an exceptional wine produced in small quantities and only in vintages where all elements come together. The winery is run throughout the year with passion and attention to detail. To this day, the perfectionism of the Marcheses has allowed only five years, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
The soil is made up of the so-called Bolgheri conglomerate - a mixture of mineral-rich silty soil, active limestone and round pebbles, which provide drainage.
